Fish Oil and Strength Training
A recent study completed at the Parana Federal University in Brazil looked at strength training in females in their 60s. Researchers discovered that while all were able to gain strength, those who supplemented with fish oil benefitted with greater strength and muscle gains. While fish oil is a recognized and popular supplement for lowering triglycerides and cholesterol, it does have many other benefits, including the improvement of nerve function. therefore, the research team theorizes that fish oil increases the muscles capacity to contract and respond to weight training. Keeping in mind the small sampling of 45 subjects, more research is necessary to confirm these exciting findings.
