Fish Oil and Strength Training
A recent study completed at the Parana Federal University in Brazil looked at weight training in women in their 60s. Researchers found that while all were able to gain strength, those who supplemented with fish oil experienced greater strength and muscle gains. While fish oil is a proven and well known supplement for lowering triglycerides and cholesterol, it does have many other benefits, including the improvement of nerve function. Thus, the research team postulates that fish oil increases the muscles ability to contract and respond to strength training. Considering the small sample size of 45 subjects, more study is needed to confirm these exciting findings.
